PERRY-Services for Lewis Claibourne (Clay) Ragland, 85, of Vandalia, formerly of Perry will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 8, 2013 at the Vandalia First Christian Church with Minister Jamie Frankie officiating. Burial will be in Lick Creek Cemetery, Perry. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with Masonic services at 7 p.m. at the Vandalia First Christian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Bienhoff Funeral Home. Mr. Ragland passed away at 8:30 p.m., February 5, 2013 at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia. He was born December 12, 1927 in Wellsville, the son of Thomas Jefferson and Margaret Eddleman Ragland. He was married to Cleta Mounts on September 4, 1948 in Hannibal and she survives. Other survivors include: one son and his wife, Randy and Kathy Ragland of Perry; one daughter and her husband, Vicki and David Sherman of Vandalia; six grandchildren, Lisa Joiner, Eric Joiner, Amanda Picton, Thomas Ragland and Tony Cragen, all of Perry, and Jodi Joiner of Warrenton; seven great grandchildren; and a special friend Don Rust of Ursa, Ill. He was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Ragland. Mr. Ragland was a lifetime area resident and very active in his community. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Vandalia, the Lick Creek Masonic Lodge #302, and of the Good Sam's Club. He served as the fire chief of the Perry Fire Department for several years. He owned and operated a feed store, Ragland Produce for six years and the Ragland Service Station for twelve years. He worked as a Standard Oil agent for fourteen years and then worked for MFA for two years prior to his retirement in 1975. He loved watching Cardinal baseball games. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lick Creek Cemetery or the Lick Creek Masonic Lodge #302. Pallbearers will be Eric Joiner, Thomas Ragland, Tony Cragen, Don Rust, Steve Swon and Craig Ragland. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Asquith, Don Couch, Rodger Lewis, Carey Ragland and David Swon.
